Name of Assignment: Cold War Crisis
Subject: Humanities
Facilitator/Teacher: Megan Terry
This assignment revolved around the international conflict known as the Cold War, specifically the Cuban Missile Crisis. During this event, the USS allowed Cuba to house missiles. If this event went south, the only surviving part of the continental US would've been the state of Washington.
In this assignment, we roleplayed as members of ExComm, reviewed the events leading up to and during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and wrote a letter urging President JFK to take one of five courses of action. We chose to peacefully discuss the crisis, and work towards a non-violent solution. We hoped that by bringing this issue to the global table, we could get support from other countries and be less vulnerable to the USSR's possible wrath.
The 21st Century skills we used were Interpersonal, because we worked in teams, and Civic Literacy and Engagement, because we showed our knowledge of political histories and how to navigate such a dire situation.
The thing I am most proud of from this assignment was the way me and my team worked together.
The most difficult thing about this task was the handwriting. I particularly find it uncomfortable.
If I could start over, I wouldn’t change anything. I'm very proud of what we accomplished.
