Name of Assignment: Escape the Newsroom Reflection
Subject: Junior Seminar P2
Facilitator/Teacher: Cassie Kepler
In this project, me and my group investigated multiple different news sources, and using the S.I.F.T.(Stop, Investigate, Find Other Sources, Trace Info) and C.R.A.P.(Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy and Purpose) methods, we figure out which ones were trustworthy and which were not. We looked at sites like OAN, Wikipedia, and NPR, and learned how to find completely unbiased sources. one way we did this was by looking at the same story told by different sources and finding one with the most credible and unbiased information we could.
The 21st century skills we used were Interpersonal, Global Awareness, and Civic Literacy and Engagement. I worked with a group of students, and we used our knowledge of global current events and critical thinking skills to determine the reliability of the provided sources.
The thing I am most proud of from this assignment was the way me and my team worked together. I feel that we had great chemistry. The most difficult thing about this task was figuring out which sites were credible sources or not. Sometimes it's obvious if it's trustworthy. other times it's near impossible to tell.
If I could start over, I wouldn’t change anything. I'm very proud of what we accomplished.
